The footwear of the German shoe brand, known as “Birkenstock,” was the first to create and produce comfortable slippers with an anatomically correct shape of the sole. As a result, all similar shoe models started to be referred to as “birkenstocks”.
Initially, Birkenstock slippers were exclusively used for preventative and orthopedic reasons. This was achieved through a special shoe insole that matched the contours of the foot.
However, Birkenstocks are now commonly seen on runways and worn by fashion enthusiasts of all ages, not just for medical purposes.
